By-election 12 August 2021
Graham Ross retired in May 2021. A by-election to elect another councillor was held on Thursday 12th August 2021.

The successful candidate was Colin Aitken, Scottish Liberal Democrats.

Ward Boundary Changes

Electoral boundaries were changed in 2016, with part of the Dunain area being removed from the Inverness Ward and an area including parts of Dalneigh and the City Centre (west of the River Ness) being added. This increased the electorate to 8,100. The ward number was changed to become Ward 13.

By-election 23 April 2009
Jimmy Macdonald died on 30th January 2009. A by-election to elect another councillor was held on Thursday 23rd April 2009.

The successful candidate was Alasdair Christie, Liberal Democrat Focus Team. Alasdair moved house out of the ward and was elected as councillor for Ness-side ward in 2012.

Highland Council Election 3 May 2007

These was the first ever Council elections held in Scotland under proportional representation. Multi-member wards had been in use until re-organisation in 1975.

Predecessor wards

Inverness West (Ward 14) comprises Scorguie, Kinmylies, Muirtown and Bught/Springfield areas of Inverness together with landward areas of Dunain and Leachkin. It is a 3 member ward with an 2007 electorate of 6,581. The total population is 8,581 persons and it is a “mainly urban Ward with a population density well above the Highland average” covering an area of 14 sq km (5.4 square miles).The ward comprises parts of the following previous single-member wards:

    • Inverness West – Ward 50 (Cllr Ron Lyon, Ind)
    • Scorguie – Ward 43 (Cllr Jimmy Macdonald, Ind)
    • Ballifeary – Ward 52 (Cllr Alasdair Milne, Ind)
    • Kirkhill – Ward 42 (Cllr Jack Shiels, Ind)
    • Canal – Ward 51 (Cllr Bill Smith, Ind)

Cllrs Ron Lyon, Alasdair Milne and Jack Shiels stood down in 2007 and did not seek re-election.

Cllr Bill Smith, who had been Provost of Inverness since 1999, contested the new Inverness Central ward and regrettably failed to be re-elected.

Jimmy Macdonald had served as councillor for Scorguie from 1986 to 1999 and 2003 to 2007. He contested the new Inverness West Ward in May 2007 and was successfully re-elected as one of three councillors for that ward.
